“What Are Words?”

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Luke 6:45)
Chris Medina, who recently was a contestant on American Idol, has an inspiring story. Just days before he was about to marry his beloved fiance, she was involved in a horrible car accident that left her with severe brain damage. He promised to remain by her side and take care of her because he loved her.
Chris released a song called “What are words?”. The Lyrics of the chorus are “What are words if you really don’t mean them when you say them. What are words if they’re only for good times then they don’t? When it’s love, yeah, you say them out loud, those words they never go away, they live on, even when we’re gone”

He has remained by his fiancé’s side, helped her, taken care of her and loved her. Chris has been a man of his word.

Are you speaking words of truth? Do your words bring good to others and uplift them?
God wants us to be filled with His love. He wants our words and actions to speak Love. He knows that what is in our hearts is what comes out of our mouths.
The Pharisees in the Bible did not have good in their hearts, they were always looking for the mistakes others made, for the wrong in others. They thought they were above everyone else because they kept the law. When they saw that the disciples did not wash their hands before a meal, they complained that they were breaking the law. Jesus said to them: “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?” Matthew 15:3.
“You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
“‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’” Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” Matthew 15:7-9.

Defile means to make unclean or impure (Merriam-webster Dictionary).
The words you speak today reveal who you truly are.

If you are always speaking words of anger, words of hate, you have anger and hate in your heart and you must let it go or it will consume you and you will never be happy.
When you are criticizing others for the way they look, for their achievements, you have jealousy and envy in your hearts. These emotions can affect your own self esteem and ruin your personal achievements. Do the best you can do and God will do the rest.
When you disrespect your parents, and those around you, you have no respect for yourself or God in your heart. We are all created equally, we are all sons and daughters of God, and we ALL deserve respect.
When you say you can’t do something, or that it is impossible and you are afraid, you have doubt and fear in your heart. You have forgotten you serve a powerful God, the God of the impossible.
When you say to someone that they can’t worship God in a certain way, or dress like they do for church, or sing and hear Christian music that is not of your preference, you have put traditions and personal desires above God in your heart. Remember, God looks at the heart. God knows the desires and intentions of each person. If you believe they are not doing what God wants, pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you love that person, as they are, and leave the transforming to Him.

The Holy Spirit wants to live in our lives but if we are filled with negative, hurtful, and evil emotions and desires, it is very hard for him to remain. When a home if filled with clutter and junk, there is no room to move, to sleep, to enjoy the comfort of a home and the happiness it brings. To enjoy a home completely it has to be clean, clutter free and filled with joy and love.

May our heart be filled with good. May Love reign in our heart. Let us Remove all that is unclean and allow the Holy Spirit to live in our heart. Our words can bring joy to someone, it can change a life, and most of all it can bring Honor and Glory to God, the Lord of what is good, clean, and loving!

Prayer: Holy Spirit please live in my life. I want my heart to be filled with what is good and clean. Lord, may my words reflect who you are. When others hear me speak may they know I am your child, someone who is filled with Love, an unconditional Love that only comes from You! Amen.
