“Any Mud in Your Eyes?”

One of the miracles of Jesus, that I find the most interesting in the Bible, is the healing of man who had been born blind.  The Bible says:

“…he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes.” (John 9:6).

Imagine you are the blind man and Jesus comes to heal you, would you expect Him to put mud on your eyes?  A nice gentle touch, maybe some eye-drops, or perhaps just a strong command would have done it for me, but mud?  Why mud?  Mud in your eyes? Mud does not help your vision, on the contrary it blurs and may even damage your vision.  It seemed as if God was giving this blind man exactly the opposite of what he needed.  The blind man needed vision, and Jesus put mud in his eyes.

Have you ever needed something in your life and gotten the complete opposite of what you needed?  Have you asked God for something only to receive something totally different? Are you going through one of those irritating moments in which you need “eyesight” and all you have in your eyes is mud? Are you asking for vision and all God is giving you is saliva and dirt mixed up in your eye? Whether you are now or you will in the future, just remember God knows best.  He knows what you need and with His blessing something good will come out of it. God has a way of taking these irritating moments of life and turning them into blessing.

As you go through this difficult moment, don’t try to rub the mud out, begin to praise God, and follow His instructions. You have just gone from no vision, to blurry vision, and you are about to have 20/20 vision. The blind man, with mud in his eyes, did.

“Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam”. So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.” (John 9:7).

Prayer: Lord, there is mud in my eyes and you know how it bugs me. But I praise you, for you know what is best and the miracle is already in the works.  Thank You!!!  AMEN.
